Between 2012 and 2015 South Ayrshire Council and South Carrick Community Leisure worked in partnership to scope and agree a concept design and business case for a new leisure centre to replace the former swimming pool and beach pavilion in Girvan.

The project to construct the building was commissioned by South Ayrshire Council on behalf of the community. Hub South West were responsible for managing the contractual process on behalf of the Council and employed architects Noor and Morrison Construction to design and build the centre.

The new centre comprises a 25 metre 4 lane deck level swimming pool, a fitness gym with 40+ fitness stations, a flexible multi-purpose studio used for fitness, arts and cultural activities, a two-story children’s soft play zone and a 50 seat café area together with reception, changing and ancillary facilities.

Funding for the construction and equipping of The Quay Zone was provided by a number of institutions and organisation including:

South Ayrshire Council
Sportscotland
Scottish Government Capital Regeneration Fund
Carrick Futures
Girvan SAC Regeneration Fund
Hadyard Hill Community Benefit Fund
Scottish Power renewables Kilgallioch Wind Farm
The William Grant Foundation
LEADER
Tralorg Wind Farm

Construction began at the end of January 2016 and the completed building was handed over to South Carrick Community Leisure 62 week later on March 23 2017.

Recruitment of the management and staff for the centre started in late 2016 and the first month following the handover of the building was spent training and familiarizing staff with the operation of the new facilities. The Quay Zone Community Leisure Centre opened its doors to customers on 27th April 2017.
